The reusable formula
Recurring cost per drink = (coffee consumable cost + relevant recurring consumables) ÷ number of drinks.
Use a week or month of actual purchases. Count only drinks made, not guests you expected to serve. Date-stamp the calculation because UAE retail prices, pack sizes and sellers change.

Add the consumables your machine actually uses
- Milk or plant drink per recipe, including waste left in jugs or tubes.
- Paper filters or reusable-filter replacement.
- Descaler spread across the cycles it provides.
- Water filters at the replacement interval stated for the machine and water setting.
- Cleaning tablets, milk cleaner, grinder cleaner or cartridges when required.
- Wear parts such as seals, tubes, carafes, jugs or brew-group lubricant when specified.
Keep machine purchase cost visible but separate
Purchase price is an upfront capital cost. To compare total ownership, state an assumed ownership period and drinks: machine cost per drink = purchase price ÷ expected lifetime drinks. That is a scenario, not a prediction—repairs, resale, failure and changing habits can alter it.
Worked example without invented prices
- Take the current receipt price and pack quantity for your capsule, bean bag or ground coffee.
- Record the actual dose or capsules used for each normal drink.
- Add milk and each recurring cleaning/filter item allocated across its real interval.
- Divide the period total by completed drinks.
- Repeat for the alternative format using the same drink count and comparable cup size.
Why simple capsule-vs-bean claims fail
Premium beans can cost more than entry capsules; small bean doses can reverse that. A milk recipe can make milk the dominant variable. Filter coffee discarded from a batch increases cost per consumed cup. A machine with filters and tablets has a different recurring basket from a basic capsule machine.

Maintenance and downtime
Skipping filters or descaling to lower the spreadsheet total is a false saving when the manual requires them. Include approved care products and consider service availability. Do not assign a repair cost without evidence; track actual repairs separately.

- Use the price from the exact UAE seller and pack size on the same date.
- Separate delivery or membership costs when they differ between options.
- Check capsule and filter availability before assuming the cheapest pack remains obtainable.
- Avoid imported systems whose consumables or warranty route are uncertain.
Final recommendation
Run the calculation for your normal drink, quantity and maintenance schedule. Compare recurring cost first; add a clearly labelled purchase-cost scenario only if useful.
