What makes a laptop an “AI PC”?
An AI PC combines a CPU for general work, a GPU for graphics and highly parallel processing, and an NPU designed to run supported AI workloads efficiently. On Windows, “Copilot+ PC” is a specific Microsoft hardware class; “AI laptop” is a broader marketing term and does not guarantee the same features.
What does NPU TOPS mean?
TOPS means trillions of operations per second. NPU TOPS is a peak theoretical throughput figure at a stated precision, commonly INT8. It can help identify whether a PC meets a platform threshold, but it does not predict every app’s speed. Vendor architectures, memory paths, software optimisation and supported data types differ, so a 50-TOPS NPU is not automatically faster in every task than a 45-TOPS one. Never compare a combined CPU+GPU+NPU figure with an NPU-only figure.
How many TOPS do you actually need in 2026?
For Microsoft’s current Copilot+ PC class, the NPU must deliver at least 40 TOPS and the system must include at least 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. A 40–50 TOPS NPU is adequate for mainstream supported productivity features. Newer 80-TOPS Snapdragon X2 systems offer more NPU headroom, but software support determines whether you benefit. Heavy local image generation, large language models, 3D work and AI video tools often depend more on GPU performance and available memory than on NPU TOPS.
Intel vs AMD vs Snapdragon vs Apple
Intel: Core Ultra 200V laptops provide 40–48 NPU TOPS with familiar x86 Windows compatibility and capable integrated graphics. The newer Series 3 family reaches roughly 47–50 NPU TOPS depending on the exact chip; the Core Ultra 7 355 in this list is officially 49, not a rounded 50.
AMD: Ryzen AI 300 and 400 processors pair 50-TOPS-class XDNA NPUs with strong x86 compatibility and useful integrated Radeon graphics. Check whether a quoted 73, 80 or 81 TOPS figure is total platform throughput rather than the NPU.
Snapdragon: Snapdragon X laptops use Windows on Arm. They offer efficient designs and 45-TOPS NPUs, while the newer X2 Elite reaches 80 NPU TOPS. Modern mainstream apps are often native or emulated well, but specialised drivers, VPNs, security agents, plug-ins and older enterprise tools still need individual verification.
Apple: M5 Macs use Apple silicon with a 16-core Neural Engine plus Neural Accelerators in the GPU. Apple does not publish a directly comparable NPU TOPS figure for these Macs. Choose them for macOS workflows and application fit rather than forcing an estimated TOPS score into a Windows comparison.
RAM: 16GB or 32GB?
Treat 16GB as the practical floor for a premium AI laptop in 2026. It is enough for mainstream office work, study and supported Copilot+ features, but 32GB is a better long-term target for development, large creative projects, virtual machines and local models. Memory is soldered on most thin models, so decide before purchase. A creator workstation may justify 64GB when the apps and datasets can use it.
Do you still need a dedicated GPU?
Yes, when the workload is gaming, 3D rendering, CUDA, demanding video effects, Stable Diffusion-class generation or larger local models. An NPU is efficient for supported low-power AI features; it does not replace a powerful GPU. Integrated Intel, AMD, Qualcomm and Apple graphics are suitable for everyday acceleration, but the ProArt P16’s RTX GPU is in a different class for sustained GPU workloads.
UAE warranty and configuration checklist
- Match the exact model code, processor, RAM, storage, display and ASIN—not only the laptop family name.
- Confirm the seller, fulfilment, UAE/GCC warranty, invoice and return terms before paying.
- Check English/Arabic keyboard preference, charger voltage and whether a UAE Type-G lead is included.
- For Windows on Arm, verify every specialised app, driver, VPN, security tool and peripheral.

An AI laptop is a PC with dedicated hardware for machine-learning tasks. Its CPU still handles general computing, its GPU handles graphics and many heavier parallel workloads, and its neural processing unit (NPU) efficiently accelerates supported features such as background effects, transcription, search and some on-device models. An NPU can reduce power use for compatible tasks, but it does not make every AI app local or automatically capable of running a large model.
NPU performance is often quoted in TOPS—trillions of operations per second. That is a useful eligibility and capability signal, not a complete speed score. Precision, software support, memory, cooling and workload all matter. We compare NPU-only TOPS where vendors publish it and keep separate figures, such as AMD overall platform TOPS or NVIDIA GPU AI TOPS, out of the NPU ranking. Apple publishes a 16-core Neural Engine for M5 but no directly comparable NPU TOPS figure, so we do not invent one.
For UAE buyers in 2026, these laptops make the most sense for professionals, creators, developers, students and frequent travellers who expect to keep a machine for several years or use Copilot+, local transcription, media tools and privacy-sensitive on-device features.
